June 2018: Recruiting and more Recruiting

Spent most of the month working on some recruiting efforts for a client. Hiring all sorts of positions to include tower technicians, network engineers, and help desk technicians.

April 2018: WiFi Site Surveys

Started the month with a WiFi site survey in New Jersey. Hospital site, over 250,000 square feet. Then down to Florida to do two smaller hospital sites in Gainesville and Miami. Wrapped up the month with a survey of a private estate site (9 buildings on 100 acres) in Seal Harbor ME.

The private estate was especially challenging due to the stone walls and thick floors. We were able to craft a solution that will work for them.

March 2018: Outdoor WiFi Field Surveys, WISPA, Tower Work, HR Support

Busy month with lots of variety… knocked out about 200 field survey sites in Huntington WV for Comcast then headed to WISPA, a conference in Birmingham AL to learn more about Wireless Internet Service.

Great conference. Picked up some great tips to employ in the WISP we manage in Washington State. Made some great industry contacts.

During the month, Dawn took on a consulting project for one of our big clients. She started helping the HR Director with a number of special projects.

Alex wrapped up the month with some tower crew work in Salisbury MD. Mostly project management, but also working with the crew to help them with a number of microwave installs. Cold as all get out on this project but worth it.

January 2018: Outdoor WiFi Field Surveys

Brrrr…. nothing like doing field surveys in north eastern PA in the dead of winter. Headed to Stroudsburg PA to conduct outdoor WiFi surveys for PenTelData to support their rollout of outdoor WiFi units in the town.

December 2017: WiFi Site Surveys, Training, WiFi Install

Started the month off with a WiFi Site Survey for a hospital in Michigan.

Took a week off to attend the CWNA and CWDP training courses (Certified Wireless Network Professionals). Good classes… took them to fill in some blanks and to get a different perspective on wireless networking from peers.

Towards the end of the month we started a WiFi install (Ubiquiti) for a private school in Baltimore MD. We deployed 20 access points in two buildings, installed new switches, controller, and security gateway.

October 2017: Outdoor WiFi Field Surveys

On behalf of one of our clients and Comcast, we spent a good bit of the month working outdoors conducting WiFi field surveys to support the deployment of outdoor WiFi service through Comcast. We were in Somerset PA, York PA, Morgantown WV, Pittsburgh PA, and State College PA. Visited well over 800 sites to validate the virtual surveys.

September 2017: Starting up another run of WiFi surveys in hospitals

Starting another run of WiFi surveys in hospitals all over the country. one lined up for September and four more in October. We conduct a comprehensive survey so we can recommend a design that provides the desired coverage, accounts for interference issues, and document the existing network.

We will be using our standard suite of products: Ekahau Enterprise Survey, Metageek Spectrum Analyzer, WiFi Explorer, and the client selected AP, a Cisco 3702. We will be breaking in our new survey cart and AP tower.

August 2017: Added 3 more access points to an existing WiFi system in a school

Long standing client, Lititz Area Mennonite School in Lititz PA asked us to add some more access points to cover some changes in their layout. This brings the system total to 19 access points throughout the school.

Hardware is Ubiquiti based. Two Ubiquiti switches (one on each floor), Cloud Key controller, and a mix of older UniFi 802.11n devices and the newer UAP-AC-Pro units (802.11ac). Supporting close to 300 users.

June 2017: Designed and Installed a WiFi System in a Church

Designed and installed a WiFi system in the First & St Stephen’s UCC church in Towson, MD. System was designed to provide support for a major national conference with potentially 200 users.

System based on Ubiquiti hardware. Five access points providing solid coverage to this 250 year old church.

Jan 2017: Started oversight on a public safety radio network

Began providing some oversight on the rollout of a Harris P25 public safety radio network. Providing a second set of eyes to review certain elements of the deployment and to ensure the project is on track and the budget is properly accounted for.
