Street Drugs – Current Trends

Humankind has sought to alter themselves chemically since we started walking this earth. Some substances are pretty mild. Some, well, lets just say they are pretty wild. It is an ever-changing environment. Trying to keep up with what is what and dispelling rumors or false stories is pretty tough.

This course is designed to give you an overview of street drugs, street slang, signs/symptoms of use/abuse, consumption methods, and general insight into the things people try today. This program is great for first responders, teachers, counselors, clergy, health care providers, parents… pretty much anyone that works with people at risk for drug abuse (which is pretty much anyone!).

The program is best presented at 1.5 to 2.0 hours long. It can be reduced to as little as 30 minutes. The length of the program will decide what is covered. At 30 minutes, the focus will be strictly on current trends (designer drugs, synthetics, current epidemics). At 1 hour, we will add in alcohol abuse, over the counter abuse, herbal supplement abuse, and legal highs. At 90 minutes to 2 hours, we can also add in older (but still popular) drugs like marijuana, cocaine, crack, heroin, LSD, PCP, and more details on the other topics.

For EMS providers, this course has been approved by the PA Department of Health for continuing education credits.
