We started the month off in Rockford IL installing a high-capacity wireless link for a manufacturing firm. A one mile shot with Ubiquiti AF60-XR radios. The existing link was getting pretty old and there was concern it would fail. Lots of boom lift time on this effort. We were operating an 85ft boom lift so we could work on a 45ft and 65ft tower. Spent a lot of time driving back and forth between the sites too which was entertaining (beside driving an 85ft boom lift on a public road, there were three traffic lights, two stop signs, two sets of railroad tracks, and a traffic circle to navigate).
After we wrapped up we headed west. All the way to Nevada in Gerlach, home of Burning Man. Had several projects to knock out while here for a few weeks. Rebuilt a tower with gear from 20 to 50 feet up. Complete new cabling, properly hung, ran power and fiber to the tower and copper up the tower to 8 radios. Kept the old system in place in a fully operational mode with the new system aligned and ready for a later transition when they were ready to convert all the client radios around the area.
Installed a 29ft Rohn-25 tower to be a relay station for a link that had been obliterated by trees over the years. Nice cement pad, mounted the tower to the building and pad.
Cleaned up a number of sites around town. Lots of time on a 65ft boom lift. Beautiful views of the snow covered mountains.
We left Gerlach on Memorial Day weekend and headed west on some vacation. Napa, Sonoma, Muir Woods and the Redwoods, San Francisco, Monterrey Bay, Mohave Desert, Las Vegas, Santa Fe, Branson. A wonderful time to see friends, coworkers, enjoy some great time in nature.
