Design

A typical Wi-Fi network design project commences with a client interview to comprehensively understand their needs, constraints, timelines, and overall objectives. We then acquire or create scaled floor plans that are meticulously accurate, encompassing the walls, doors, windows, stairs, and any other distinctive features of the construction. We conduct interviews with your facilities team or individuals knowledgeable about the construction to gather additional insights. Additionally, we may review existing networks to ascertain their ability to support a new Wi-Fi network.
Subsequently, we proceed to the site for testing of construction materials and a thorough evaluation of the situation to determine appropriate mounting methods and locations, assess network coverage, and validate the network conditions. Once this data has been meticulously collected, we proceed with a predictive design.
We also offer AP on a Stick designs. While these designs are time-consuming and incur a higher cost, they guarantee the precise placement and type of AP to be utilized. Typically, an AP on a Stick design achieves 95-100% accuracy, whereas a predictive design can range from 75-95% depending on the amount of data gathered versus assumptions or guesses.
Validation
Following the installation of a Wi-Fi network, a validation survey is conducted to ascertain its adherence to coverage standards and to identify any necessary adjustments. This survey is conducted utilizing specialized survey tools and devices that collect data from the dispersed access points as a surveyor traverses the site. The gathered data is subsequently analyzed by our engineers, enabling the formulation of plans to enhance the service, should any improvements be required.
Troubleshooting
Wireless networking is not a one-time configuration process. Neglecting it can lead to various issues, including slow page loads, dropped calls, garbled calls, and dropped connections. Many companies attempt to resolve these problems using a phone or similar device equipped with a Wi-Fi tool like WiFiMan or WiFi Explorer. These tools are useful for quick diagnostics as they only measure signal strength. While signal strength is crucial, it does not guarantee optimal Wi-Fi performance. Other factors such as noise, co-channel interference, adjacent channel interference, and poor placement can also contribute to poor performance. These issues cannot be fully identified using these phone-based tools.
Our testing software and device enable our engineers to conduct a comprehensive site assessment. During this assessment, we gather RF data for review, similar to what is collected during a validation survey. Additionally, we review controller settings, inspect the physical network for potential issues, examine DHCP and DNS settings, assess internet connections, and analyze use cases and patterns. This comprehensive analysis provides us with the necessary information to identify the root causes of your WiFi problems and develop effective mitigation strategies.
Mitigation measures can range from simple adjustments to channel or power settings to more complex actions such as adding or relocating access points. In extreme cases, a complete network redesign may be necessary to address severe network issues.
